Games to Watch - 2008
Last year was awesome, wasn’t it? We had some of the best games of recent times dropped into our laps and, at the same time, our friends and families discovered that computer games could be fun too.
Suddenly there were new people to play games with and brand new crappy cash-ins to play. Casual gaming has started taking off in a big way.
At the same time though, hardcore gaming has seen a massive boost too. New franchises have been introduced, like
Mass Effect and
Assassin’s Creed, while existing series’ have expanded, swelled and grown to include yet more titles;
The Orange Box,
Unreal Tournament 3,
Call of Duty 4 – all of which were among our
best games of 2007.
Now that the Year of The Game is over though, a bleak, uncertain future seems to await us – or does it?
What games shine out as bright, bountiful gems in the dark Wii-dominated future of gaming? Will we see yet more new franchises being launched? Can we hope for more indie-inspired and genre-pushing games as
Portal and
BioShock, or is 2008 the Year of The Movie Tie-In?
This is why we don't let Joe do graphs...
We take a look at the year ahead and the big games on the horizon to try and see if there’s light in this darkness or if we’re doomed to a year of long, drawn out boredom. There has to be some good games coming out, right?
You bet your arse there are – in fact, next year looks like it could be an even better year than 2007! So, let’s move onwards through the new games to look out for in 2008. All aboard the train – the first stop is
EAcity Sequelville.
